Our History

NAHSE’s roots date back to the 1930s, when Black healthcare executives began organizing to create opportunities for connection, professional development, and advancement within healthcare leadership. Formally established as the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE) in 1968, the organization has continued that legacy by developing Black healthcare leaders and supporting efforts to improve the health and well-being of underserved communities. Today, NAHSE’s network of professionals spans healthcare systems, academic institutions, government agencies, community organizations, and other sectors across the healthcare industry.

The NAHSE Central Ohio Chapter was founded in 2019 to extend that legacy within Columbus and the surrounding region, home to one of the Midwest’s largest and most diverse healthcare communities. The chapter brings together professionals from many of Central Ohio’s leading healthcare organizations and institutions, creating opportunities for professional development, mentorship, networking, community engagement, and leadership development. As one of NAHSE’s newer chapters, Central Ohio continues to build its legacy by strengthening the pipeline of Black healthcare leaders and equipping members to address complex healthcare challenges and make a meaningful impact within their organizations and communities.
